The food: INCREDIBLE. The service: BAD. First, the good. They opened with an amuse-bouche which was a crostini and a piece of salami with a bit of balsamic. Both were delicious. I ordered the Frittele as a starter. I had never had a frittele before - it was fantastic. For my main dish I had Tajarin Con Burro E Salvia (butter and sage pasta - kind of like angel hair). LOVED IT! Sometimes sage can be overwhelming but the chef did not overdo it at all. It was perfect. The service left a lot to be desired. I was seated at the bar. Not long after I arrived two ladies were sat 2 seats down from me. No one asked me how any part of my meal was - which was so disappointing because I really wanted to tell them how great it was! The ladies I was sitting near were asked how their appetizer was and the restaurant employee chatted with them for several minutes. The difference in our treatment was very odd and off-putting. One fun thing about sitting at the bar is you can watch the pasta being prepared. A man pulled hanging sheets of pasta down and cut them for dishes like the one I had. It was cool to see the process! At one point he pulled out his phone and did something on it for a little bit and then returned to portioning out the pasta he had cut. Do not care that he was on his phone. Do question how sanitary that was. Mixed bag of an experience for sure. I'd probably give it another go but make a reservation and sit at a table (not at the bar). That would be my suggestion for others. Bar experience not great. -Sorry the photos aren't great - it was very dark.
I had an enjoyable meal at Spinasse. We arrived for a Sunday evening reservation and were sat promptly. The interior is pleasant. Dimly lit with real candles (which seem rare these days). The decor is nothing to write home about, but it's not bad. We started our meal with the Prosciutto di Parma with heirloom melon. Honestly some of the best prosciutto I've ever had - it melted in my mouth and was so tasty. It was really salty and I would have appreciated a heftier melon-to-prosciutto ratio, but I was overall pleased with the appetizer. The complementary bread was nice - I wish it would have come with butter or oil/vinegar, but we probably could have received that upon request (the table next to us got balsamic). Then, we ordered pastas to share. I LOVE handmade pasta and really enjoyed the noodles with cultured butter and sage (on the left in the photo). My fiance favored the risotto with crab. Three of us split the appetizer and 3 full-sized pastas - we left comfortably full with a bit of the lamb ragu (good, but not a favorite) leftover. 4 stars because (1) the French 75 I received was flat and sweet, more like a lemon drop and (2) the noodles were - at least in my opinion - very under-salted. Overall, I would absolutely return here - I'd return for the butter noodles and my fiance would eat more crab risotto. I order butter for the bread, ask for salt in advance, and probably skip the cocktail in favor of a glass of wine.
My first dining experience at Spinasse was nothing short of excellent! We had a large group reservation and were seated in the private dining area. Our group menu included six cocktails, beer, red and white wine options, and four courses. I wasn't able to try the steak or short rib options, but everything else was delicious. The corn fritters, butter and sage pasta, and crab risotto were my favorites, and I loved both desserts equally.
I went to Spinasse to celebrate my birthday. It was a good experience but I think my expectations going in were too high. The cocktails and wine suggestions were great. I love that they offer half portions of the pasta! My friend and I did our own little tasting menu with a few appetizers and pastas. For appetizers we ordered the English peas and the prosciutto con melone. Both were good but the ratio of prosciutto to melon was a little off. They brought bread in between courses and it was not good - it was cold! Would not recommend wasting space on it. All three pastas were delicious! My favorites were the tajarin and her favorite was the cavateli. The desserts were nothing to write home about and the only acknowledgement of my birthday was a somewhat creepy cat candle. All that said, I will come back but only for the pasta! The half order is plenty for one serving.
Overall, we had a great experience dining at Spinasse. The cocktails were great and pretty good value relative to the wine. We started with the "A taste of the above four antipasti" option, and honestly, they were all nothing to write home about. When I come back, I'm not getting any of the antipasti. However, the pastas redeemed the meal. We got half ordered of 3 pastas: 1. Fine hand-cut egg yolk pasta with butter and sage. 2. Cavatelli with short rib ragu and marinated cherry tomatoes. 3. Risotto with Dungeness crab, chervil and chives. All three pastas were delicious. It's hard to pick a favorite, but probably the fine hand-cut egg yolk. When I come back, I'd like to just get a full order of one of these pastas or maybe more. We shared 3 half orders of pasta and got the taste of all antipasti and we finished everything with no leftovers. The space was nice, but the chairs were not super comfortable for my back.
I forgot what I got but it's the one where you get to taste everything on the menu. Overall pretty good. Absolutely loved the portion sizes where you can take some home to enjoy later. Everything was tasty and delicious. Friendly staff.
Spinasse can be quite difficult to book these days! They only had an availability with a decent dinner hour one month later! Approved by multiple friends as the best pasta restaurant in the area, I came here again two years later to reminisce if it was as good as I remembered. Starting with a prosciutto board, our server offered to serve a half portion. Continued a primi course of Tajarin which is an egg yolk pasta with butter and sage. Simple and delicate! The rib-eye Bistecca was cooked medium rare and tender. Ended our meal with Panna Cotta with nuts. The nuts gave a different texture to the Panna Cotta but I thought it was too crunchy and didn't really pair well. Still a delicious meal~
We have been wanting to dine here for awhile, but reservations are always so hard to find! We booked about a month in advance to finally try Spinasse. The interior is super romantic and trendy - it feels pretty intimate and cozy. The service was really good - our waitress was very kind and offered good suggestions! For appetizer, we got the sampler (antipasto misto), which was pretty fun to try 4 different appetizers. I really loved the hazelnut topped artichokes - I usually don't even like artichokes but the flavor was so interesting and hazelnut really complemented the dish well. We also liked the spring peas. The pork one somehow tasted like tuna salad - it was still good but interesting because we were sure it was tuna salad haha For the mains, we ordered half size of tajarin with butter & sage, half size of truffle risotto, and a full size of tajarin al ragu. That was probably too much food for 2 people oops! Spinasse has the reputation for having the best pasta so our expectations were high. I think both of the tajarins were very good, but they are almost too different from normal pasta that I can't even compare these to other pasta dishes I had. Normally, I like thicker pasta that are cooked al dente. These are egg noodles that are super soft and thin. They are still delicious, but I think if you're expecting traditional pasta, you may be surprised. I'm glad we got a half portion of the butter one because although it was super flavorful and creamy, it's quite heavy and decadent that it might be hard to eat a lot of. Our server recommended the risotto, and I normally never get the risotto, but decided to try here. I honestly loved it even more than the pasta! The truffle cream sauce and the egg yolk just created a perfectly creamy and umami flavor and the texture of the risotto was also on point! But honestly the best thing we had here that we keep talking about after months is their olive oil... Pro tip: ask for olive oil when they bring you complimentary bread! They don't bring it unless you ask for it, but when you do ask, they give you a really generous amount of olive oil and that. was. Amazing!! Even though we had so much other food, we had to finish all the bread to soak up that olive oil! Overall, this is a nice date night restaurant with great food, although definitely on the pricey side! I think you should come here for their unique dishes and not expecting traditional Italian pasta.
Loved the atmosphere, appetizers, and service but the pasta was a little salty for us. My husband and I made a 5pm reservation for a Tuesday night. It was pretty empty at the time, which made it more intimate and nice. Love the vibes! Our host and server were both attentive and friendly. Gave lots of backstory and helpful information about the food. Food: + lemon soda - very refreshing! + complimentary crostini was delicious + antipasto Misto Della casa - all 4 antipasti made for a great appetizer to share! This was my favorite! + complimentary bread and sticks - yum! Served with olive oil For the pasta - they come in 2 sizes a half order or a full order. My husband and I originally tried ordering two half orders and our server was pretty confident in recommending that we get a full entree per person. So we decided to get a full order of each pasta, because we felt unsure. This was a mistake for us because the pasta was much too rich and salty, we ended up having a good amount left that we couldn't take home with us because we had a movie after dinner. We did our best to finish it but by the end it was just too heavy for us. + tajarin con burro - butter and sage. This was recommended as the top favorite and most popular. We were actually the most disappointed with this. The noodles were a little too soft for our liking and the pasta sauce was very heavy and salty. + agnolotti - braised Robbie filled pasta with broth was actually very tasty but once again over poured with salt or maybe it was the saltiness of the cheese on top for this one. The texture of the noodle was better for us. Overall, maybe it's our taste buds that didn't suite this type of Italian pasta. We had high hopes but it fell short for us.
